Follow Your Intuition, Even If It Scares You

We all intuitively know what’s right for us and what’s not.

We might ignore it, but we do know. That’s the joy of choice. Even if we don’t make great choices for ourselves. So what makes that happen, and what can you do about it?

Well first off, we ignore our own feelings, intuitions and gut instincts for a whole heap of reasons – see what lands for you (different ones for different things, I sure). If you find yourself nodding, you are in good company (and, just even recognising the behaviour is a good solid step to getting to a no more easily). Here are some (but know that this list is by no means exhaustive – feel free to add your own, and even send them back to me!).

  • We don’t want to let someone else down
  • We said yes too quickly and now don’t want to ‘lose face’
  • We feel scared to step into the something new that’s calling us
  • We are stuck in the box someone else thinks we are in or has put us in
  • We try to live up to a certain look or life-style (that just doesn’t suit us, or suit us anymore)
  • We’ve outgrown that way of thinking or being, but haven’t told anyone yet
  • We’re scared of what others will think
  • We want to belong
  • We haven’t yet found a crowd that might accept us in our new ‘guise’

So many of these are why we postpone changing something that really does no longer serve us.

Today, I’m inviting you to get really beautifully honest with yourself and claim something you’ve been wanting to do for some time, and just do it, or begin doing it (even if that means stopping to examine which of the above is holding you in place). It usually starts with a nice no to something.

It’s a brave move, but you’ve got one life and one day less to live it by the end of today. Reach out, or even hop on a call with me if you want a quick bit of support in the right direction, or one of these really has got you in its grip.
