Waste Not…Want More Growth? Make Use of What You Have
Do you have a list somewhere of all the assets and access you have in the business?
It’s a handy thing to have. You’ve likely bought software, products, and resources over the years that you still have access to, but may never had the chance, space or inclination to implement yet. After the impulse to bring something in, we have to make use of or put it into action the thing that’s going to support or grow your business, or you.
Far from being defunct or putting these purchases down to experience, you can use them. Creating and having such a list allows you to see a few things, that you use to build growth now, even if they were not implemented at the time. Here’s how. The list will:
- Show you or remind you about your ideas for growth in the past, things you might just want to implement now.
- Harness your creativity – even as you look at these assets, you’ll start to have ideas for how to shift what you do in the business or open up to doing something new.
- Potentially streamline your operation – one of these tools might just be the very thing you need to be more efficient.
- Highlight where you need support or help to get the growth you want.
Having such a list might just start you on the path to following up better. It might allow you to streamline your storage. It could be that you start producing content, or publishing more regularly. All these things are vital to the life blood of your business.
Looking at all you have and what you are implementing/using and not, will give you an idea of what you could do this quarter, and indeed for the rest of the year. There was a reason you bought or got the thing you got. Go back and figure out why, and how that’s relevant today. Then, dust of the thing, or the courage to tackle and implement the ‘thing’ and see what happens. Yes it may take time to learn, and yes there may well be frustration, and tech headaches, but in the end, it’s likely to be worth it. The bonus to doing this? You’ll stop feeling the regret or guilt of getting that app-building software or quiz maker, and instead just feel the accomplishment and even the potential profit of following a hunch all that time ago.
Oh, and here’s the thing about the ones on the list you just know were bad choices. Once you’ve looked at them, and decided they are not for you, capture what you wanted it for (growth, efficiency, visibility etc) , then delete the logins and write off the purchase in your mind and in your accounts. You can now focus on what you want (growth, efficiency, visibility etc) in a new way.
So go on, make the list, or if you already have one, review it, pick something that feels relevant and implement it.
